Ready for the 2014 judging
As part of this year’s commemorations of the start of the First World War, Halstead WI has laid a plaque of remembrance in our award winning drought garden.
This year we wanted to do something special to commemorate the centenary of the Great War, and to remember those who gave their lives for our country, and were delighted when Ray Gwinell from Colne Valley Funeral Directors offered to make and donate a beautiful memorial tablet in black marble to be placed in the drought garden. On Thursday 19th June the plaque was put in position and officially unveiled by Ray’s son Matt watched by Michael Portway, President of Halstead in Bloom and Halstead British Legion, David Hume, Mayor of Halstead and members of the WI.
